I absolutely adore Daniel Merriam’s work, this painting is obviously heavily influenced by him and is a bit of an salute to his work, but with my own particular brand of panache and a revival of things I use to draw as a teenager (Yes I’ve been sorting through boxes and came across tons of my old drawings, pastels, etc. whilst setting up my new art studio, you all would laugh so hard if I posted some of that odd psychedelic weird art stuff, I’m sure :). Rendering this was perhaps the most fun I think I’ve ever had painting! This is also the first painting I’ve ever done at a table, specifically my new drafting table. I wanted something hot and spicy; we all know how much trouble I have with reds, but even though this is a rather complicated piece that took quite a while to paint, in the end I’m rather pleased esp., with the reds.
